After a 12.5 year hiatus, the Manchu Warlords are back with their dopest project yet! Luke Warm takes the helm on production, while Slammon Salmin spits the illest flowcab.
8 Banners is about getting back to our roots in a couple different ways. First of all, the 3rd release from the MW attempts to explore the roots of our namesake. The 8 banners were the divisions of the Manchu army, as well as society, feared throughout East Asia in the 17th century. "Raise the 8 banners, Manchu never die!" We also attempted to get back to our underground hip hop roots - breaks, cuts, samps, flowcab, beat interludes.
This project came about when Luke suddenly starting pouring out beats from the Peanut Butter Factory after a decade of silence. He would send them to me remotely, since I wasn't living in Lextown at the time. I was blown away by the gold he was mining. After hearing the beat that became "War Too Hard," I wrote the first verse of the album at work. After that, it all just fell into place through 10 months of working together remotely.
Never thought we'd drop another MW project, let alone get Coast & King Greene to come back from retirement to do a verse, so consider this album a blessing! "Luke Warm / brew a storm / with waveforms / Slammon Salmin swarm / the norm / every time he perform!" Manchu battle cry!!!
