o que um longo inverno o verão estremeceu sua luz do sol era tenro sono do inverno não iria acordar um calafrio pairou no ar manhãs de nevoeiro, lento para queimar uma estação preso no lugar nenhum cobertor de neve para cobrir as montanhas apenas frígida ensolarado samba congelou seus pés não pode dançar O rio não flui gelado sobre como uma bossa nova revigorante English Translation: what a long winter the summer shivered its sunlight was mild winter's slumber would not wake a chill hovered in the air foggy mornings, slow to burn a season stuck in place no snowy blanket to cover the mountains just frigid grey sunny samba froze over its feet can’t dance The river doesn’t flow iced over like a brisk bossa nova

about

Spending a year in Chile from 2013 - 2014, I was able to record seven songs depicting my trials there. Still, some additional drums and guitar were recorded @ Bluegrass Studios in Lexington, KY. This is my 10th official studio album, not counting a few unreleased joints from the '00s.

The album depicts several themes that came from my time in South America, including natural disasters, an unending winter, relationship struggles and the journey there and back. All in a days work, as I found. It marks the beginning and the ending of an era, plus another plunge into the great abyss that is the future.

Though I stayed true to my Latin Rock and Hip Hop roots, I experimented with a new style - Bossa Nova. After spending some time in Brazil, it was necessary to bring that incredible genre back and throw it into the mix. The result is something very new and different. In the same way, the desolation I experienced in the Bolivian desert and the hustle and bustle of Valparaíso, play a huge role in the mood of the album.

Besides the live drums and guitar on "Trying Times," the entirety of the album was recorded in my room in Viña (hence the name), with a Peruvian classical acoustic guitar, an SM58 and a Scarlett 2i2, all on Logic X. Anything else would have been too much for a time when I learned to do without.

The album is out of wack chronologically. The order of the songs as they happened in sequence looks like this:

1. Getting ready to leave Chile
2. Halfway point of being in South America
3. Throughout the entire time in Chile and a trip to Brasil
4. Last Month in Chile
5. The Beginning . . . and the End
6. Not based on events, but relevant any time I'm back in Santiago.
7. The events from which the song was created have not yet finished.

As a time for much growth in my own life, so has my style and songwriting abilities. Chile has opened my eyes for life. A piece of my heart is left buried in the sand at Caleta Abarca, but you can enjoy the entire adventure, live in stereo.

Peace and blessings,
Mateo WarSteiner
