After returning home to Lextown from Monster Island, I got a 16 channel mixer and an AKG C 414B condenser mic. This is the first track I put down with my new equipment. I originally recorded an "Old School Hip Hop" verse which I called "Party Pants." I loved the beat, but the verse was no longer relevant in my life as I finalized this album, so I rerecorded some new lyrics in Austin.
"Party Tricks" is a display of lyrical acrobatics. It's reminiscent of Common's silly lyrical play on his first album "Can I Borrow a Dollar." If you grew up like I did in high school, then you probably cruised around freestyling to your favorite beats. I included my verse as inspiration, and have left the rest of the song open for freestylers and b-boys alike. Any party trick is welcome!
