Around three in the morning one night, sittin' on the deck at my brothers old house on Waller, the original Amigos de Mateo had a freestyle jam session. I had Otis Redding's "(Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay" stuck in my head so I laid that down as a chorus, while Broses Malone kicked a beatbox and Whales dropped "Renaissance." A couple of weeks later we worked out a live version that we took to Common Grounds for an open mic night. This is the absolute signature song of Los Amigos de Mateo. It is how the band started and a classic in our arsenal of material. Though the song changes based on who is present and can sing or rap, a bit of Otis lives on through us!
