At times, it felt like I was living in an eternal winter. As a season of life, but also due to the cool temperatures and only short spurts of real "summer." I moved to Chile during summer in the States, meaning it was winter there. I never got to really experience summer that year and even summer as far south as Valparaíso stays chilly.
This is my first song in Portuguese. The lyrics came much later, after an incredible trip to Brasil, after hours and hours jamming to bossa nova and samba, and after enduring the longest winter of my life. Shout out to André Zocrato for the help with translating the lyrics. As for the pronunciation, não sei . . .
lyrics
o que um longo inverno
o verão estremeceu
sua luz do sol era tenro
sono do inverno não iria acordar
um calafrio pairou no ar
manhãs de nevoeiro, lento para queimar
uma estação preso no lugar
nenhum cobertor de neve para cobrir as montanhas
apenas frígida
ensolarado samba congelou
seus pés não pode dançar
O rio não flui
gelado sobre como uma bossa nova revigorante
English Translation:
what a long winter
the summer shivered
its sunlight was mild
winter's slumber would not wake
a chill hovered in the air
foggy mornings, slow to burn
a season stuck in place
no snowy blanket to cover the mountains
just frigid grey
sunny samba froze over
its feet can’t dance
The river doesn’t flow
iced over like a brisk bossa nova
